Introduction to Academic Language and Writing Skills (UGs) In-Person
Location: Penryn Campus, Exchange Courtyard 5
These weekly workshops introduce key aspects of academic English and writing skills. They are an opportunity to explore the language and writing skills that you'll need for your studies, ask questions and meet other students. You can join at any point of the term and can attend every week or drop in an out. Once you register, you'll be sent a confirmation email and an ical invitation that you can add to your calendar.
Weekly outline
The following is an indicative outline of the webinar series and is flexible depending on student requests.
- 15 Oct - An introduction to academic language and style
- 22 Oct - Using your reading in your writing - how to reference and cite appropriately
- 29 Oct - Writing in your own words - paraphrasing.
- 5 Nov - What makes a good paragraph?
- 12 Nov - The language and structure of introductions and conclusions
- 19 Nov - Keeping in the word count - writing concisely.
- 26 Nov - Your editing tool kit
